None of the four is formally a Schengen member. New Zealand’s SafeTravel says you can enter all of them from Schengen countries without border controls, and advises carrying your passport.
| Place | Counts toward Schengen days? | Basis |
|---|---|---|
| Monaco | Yes | UK travel advice: the Schengen area includes Monaco. |
| San Marino | Yes | UK travel advice: one 90/180 limit for the Schengen area and San Marino. |
| Vatican City | We count it with Italy | No clear statement found. Reached through Rome. |
| Andorra | No | Outside the Schengen area; reached through France or Spain. |
Monaco
UK travel advice says France handles immigration matters for Monaco, and the 90 days in any 180-day period cover the Schengen area, which includes Monaco. To stay longer, you must meet France’s entry requirements. Days in Monaco on a residence permit or long-stay visa don’t count toward the 90; the Government of Monaco explains travelling with a Monaco residence permit.
San Marino
UK travel advice says you can travel without a visa to the Schengen area and San Marino for up to 90 days in any 180-day period. If you visit for more than 30 days, or plan to work, you must register with the Gendarmerie and get a permit of stay. The San Marino Ministry of Foreign Affairs has details.
Vatican City
We found no clear statement on how days in Vatican City are counted. You reach it through Rome, so the calculator counts it with Italy. Treat this as our assumption, not a rule.
Andorra
- Andorra is not in the Schengen area. You travel through France or Spain to reach it.
- UK travel advice says you must meet the Schengen entry requirements to enter France or Spain on the way, even if you live in Andorra.
- You don’t need a visa to enter Andorra itself. To stay longer than 3 months, you must apply in person to the Andorran immigration department for a work or residence permit.
- We found no clear statement on whether days spent in Andorra count toward the Schengen 90. The calculator doesn’t count them, but your days in France or Spain on the way in and out do count. If it matters for your plans, check with the French or Spanish authorities.
